Across Party Lines by Monica Sufar and Liz Levenson
In a politically divided America, a former Republican president and a Democratic strategist find love and common ground, challenging the boundaries of their beliefs and the nation's expectations.
Katey Shore, 52, the first female and highest-rated president of the United States in history, has been out of political office for two years. Her desire to stay out of the spotlight, safely ensconced in her Tennessee cabin, is challenged by political opponent Nick Stevenson, 54, when he publicly asks Katey to endorse a bill written by his politician daughter, Louise. Not one to shy away from a healthy debate, Katey contests Nick on the bill. But when he shows up in person at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner to convince her otherwise, the political rivals realize they have more in common than they could have imagined, and despite their political differences, Nick and Katey embrace this second chance at love that defies all their beliefs. Soon, they begin secretly dating, and as Katey and Nick’s relationship deepens, their parties—and the media—are more determined than ever to tear them apart. When racy photos of Katey are leaked to the media, the couple splits. Even with the demanding schedule of the upcoming election, they realize how much they miss each other. On Election Day, Katey decides to risk it all and publicly declares her love for Nick in an impassioned speech to the nation. Katey and Nick reunite, realizing that crossing party lines benefits everyone—and that together, they can accomplish more than they ever could alone.
